About Wing Chun

Wing Chun is a southern Chinese martial art, deeply rooted in the martial arts philosophy of Siu Lum (Shaolin) Kung Fu. This fighting style emphasizes economy of movement, combining practical defense and offense. It is grounded in scientific principles, focusing on understanding and efficiently utilizing the physical and psychological dynamics of real combat situations.

Regarded as a close-range fighting style, the Wing Chun training curriculum, as passed down from SiFu Yip Man, is comprehensive. It includes the development of skills for both close and long-range encounters. SiFu Yip Man was especially renowned for his devastating kicks, highlighting the versatility of Wing Chun. While some may categorize Wing Chun as a "soft" style, it actually achieves a balance between "hard" and "soft" movements. Practitioners flow with their opponent's power while delivering sharp, explosive strikes.

Our training sessions incorporate essential Wing Chun principles and techniques, fostering a detailed understanding of this art through a structured, step-by-step approach. We include various exercises designed to enhance strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and other attributes crucial for effective self-defense skills and becoming a proficient Wing Chun practitioner. Beyond self-defense, Wing Chun also contributes to character development, aiming to cultivate the mind, body, and spirit.

Notably, Wing Chun is a martial art developed by a woman and gained global popularity through the legendary Bruce Lee, celebrated for his one-inch punch and the wooden dummy.

About

Sifu Allan Lee Che Kong

In 1967, Sifu Allan Lee began his journey in Wing Chun training under Sifu Lok Yiu, the second disciple of the revered Grandmaster Yip Man. As he honed his Wing Chun skills, Sifu Lee’s dedication and good character led him to become an assistant instructor in Sifu Lok Yiu’s schools. Sifu Lee's exceptional commitment caught Grandmaster Yip Man's attention, and he selected Sifu Lee as a private disciple. This opportunity allowed Sifu Lee to undergo rigorous training of  the comprehensive Wing Chun curriculum under Grandmaster Yip Man's esteemed guidance.

In tribute to the late Grandmaster, Sifu Lee generously donated his Hong Kong residence to establish the chief school and office of the Yip Man Wing Chun Martial Arts Association. His contributions didn’t stop there; Sifu Yip Chun, Grandmaster Yip Man's elder son, appointed him Chairman and Director of the Yip Man Wing Chun Martial Arts Association, United States Chapter.

After relocating to New York City in 1974, Sifu Lee had the privilege of meeting Sifu Duncan S. H. Leung, another private disciple of the late Grandmaster Yip Man. Together, they trained and taught at a Wing Chun Kung Fu school, where Sifu Leung helped expand Sifu Lee's Wing Chun skills and deepen his understanding of the art. Sifu Lee always maintained a profound respect for other martial arts and practitioners.

Renowned for his clarity, discipline, and deep respect for tradition, Sifu Lee passed down a lineage that emphasizes practical self-defense, precise technique, and a calm focus. Although Sifu Lee passed away in 2016, his teachings continue to shape the training philosophy at New Jersey Wing Chun.
